"Locke & Key" Features An Actress From 2 Of Your Favourite Canadian Childhood Shows

Here’s the key to unlock this childhood memory! The Locke & Key cast is built up of so many talented Canadians. That includes one actress who you might’ve recognized from your younger years. Joy Tanner, who works on the new hit Netflix show, also starred in Life With Derek and Degrassi: The Next Generation.

If you aren’t familiar with Locke & Key, the Netflix series follows the Locke family who moves into their father, Rendell Locke’s, family mansion after his unexpected death. Instead of getting the fresh start they hope for, they find a house full of magical keys and hidden secrets.

Tanner was featured in two episodes of season 1 of the Toronto-filmed show. She played Erin Voss, who is Rendell’s childhood friend.

Although the 53-year-old actress was born in Buffalo, New York, according to IMDb, her acting career took off in Toronto after returning from studying in the UK. She officially became a Canadian in the ‘90s after permanently moving to the city.

Back in the early 2000s, Tanner was occupying our screens as Nora McDonald-Venturi on the hit Family Channel show Life With Derek. She was a mom and step-mom to Canadian Disney stars Casey McDonald and Derek Venturi.

From 2009-2013 she was also on Degrassi: The Next Generation as Laura Coyne.

Since her time on the Canadian teen drama ended, she’s gone on to work in episodes of Murdoch Mysteries and Private Eyes, IMDb reports.

There’s yet to be a season 2 of Locke and Key announced or any info on whether or not Tanner could return for a potential second installment.

However, new episodes are currently being written according to an interview the showrunners had with IGN, “We're writing Season 2...Even though it hasn't been greenlit. We're working in a room.”

Locke and Key is currently streaming its 10-episode season on Netflix Canada.
