A Lucky Canadian Just Became $55 Million Richer Last Night
Despite what's going on everywhere, good things can still happen. For one lucky Canadian, that means winning the Lotto Max jackpot. Someone is a brand new millionaire and they might not even know it yet.
OLG announced all of the Lotto Max winners, indicating that one lucky person just became $55 million richer. According to CP24, they're located somewhere in the prairies.
However, the Western Canada Lottery Corporation later confirmed that the bigger winner was actually based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.*
In addition to that gigantic sum, one other lucky person can also claim to be a millionaire with a second prize of $1,052,328.10. That person is in British Columbia.
Of course, there are more than just two winners with every draw, and plenty of other people will be able to claim some pretty impressive amounts.
A total of 39 people have their hands on tickets worth $5,037.00, while 152 can collect $775.40.
Just over 2500 people can all put a little extra cash in their pockets with $106.80 wins, while over 100,000 players won prizes ranging from $20 to $47.80.
It may not be millions, but it's enough to at least pick up a ticket or two for the next draw.
Despite the staggering amount won by the lucky prairie resident, it's not the highest that the jackpot has reached in 2020.
Three Lotto Max players have already won the maximum prize amount of $70 million this year.
The first winner was Adlin Lewis, a credit risk manager from Brampton, Ontario who collected his prize in January.
The second major amount was claimed in February by Gregory Mathieu, a 22-year-old grocery clerk from Quebec.
The third $70 million was sold in the Chatham-Kent area on April 14, and the winner has yet to claim their prize.
OLG has extended its deadlines for players to claim their winning tickets, as the prize centre has closed down due to COVID-19. They also advise players that there may be delays in processing times for winning tickets.
