Every family has their own Christmas tradition, whether you like yours or not, it's something you do every single year. Going to a Christmas festival should be on the list of traditions because each one has something different to offer. This massive Christmas festival in Louisiana is one of the oldest in the country and should be on your holiday to-do list.
The Natchitoches Christmas Festival in Natchitoches, Louisiana has been around for ages and, let us tell you, these people know how to throw a party. This year marks the 93rd year of the festival and there will be over 300,000 twinkling lights throughout the city.
The festival will be happening from Nov. 23 to Jan. 6. You'll have about six weeks to get down there and experience this Christmas extravaganza for yourself.
Along with the 300,000 lights dangling everywhere, there are a good bit of Christmas displays throughout the town and set up by the river. The festival happens every weekend during these six weeks, with some sporatic days during the week.
Every Saturday there is a massive firework show that is synced to Christmas tunes over the river. To put perspective to how insane this show really is, the final costs of the entire show is over $100,000 to run.
You'll be able to walk down Front Street and around Cane River Lake to stop at all the vendors and restaurants located along these parts of the town. The festival is known for its meat pies and their eggnog cocktails, which there will be plenty of through the weekends.
Just this year, Cane River has introduced a new riverboat that provides slow cruises up and down the lake. It will be making its debut this Christmas season so you can hop on board and see the lights in a new and exciting way.

Louisiana is filled with spots that are a must-see/do at least once in your life, like this preserve that lets you swim with otters and this adventure park where you can zip line over a pond filled with alligators.
