These Photos Of “Mean Girls” Filming At U Of T Back In 2004 Are So Iconic

For some people, today might just be just another Thursday, but for anyone who's ever seen Mean Girls, it's so much more than that; it's October 3rd. On this very day, many years ago, high school heartthrob Aaron Samuels turned around in math class and asked Cady Heron (who just so happened to have the world's biggest crush on him) what day it is. Obviously that's not a groundbreaking question, but when you're a teenage girl, pretty much anything your crush says to you is newsworthy. It's now been a whopping 15 years since Mean Girls was first released, and although today isn't the anniversary, it might as well be. These Mean Girls University of Toronto photos will give you major nostalgia.

If you're a hardcore fan of the movie, you probably already know that Mean Girls takes place in the city of Evanston, Illinois. What you may not know though, is that filming didn't even take place in Illinois - it happened right here in Canada, at the University of Toronto! U of T has been called home by many of the sets of your favourite films over the years, and it's often disguised as an Ivy League school in plenty of Hollywood blockbusters.

Earlier today, the official U of T Twitter account sent out a post in honour of the "holiday" saying, "In celebration of #MeanGirlsDay, check out these fetch #UofT campus photos where the cult movie classic was filmed. #TBT 💖".

The majority of Mean Girls scenes take place in a high school, and those were shot in New Jersey. However, the scenes near the end of the movie, when Cady skips prom to compete alongside her mathletes crew, were actually shot in U of T's Convocation Hall back in 2003.

Ironically enough, Lindsay Lohan was also spotted hanging out at U of T just a few months earlier for the filming of another hit, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. As mentioned earlier, the campus is no stranger to celebrities.

In honour of Mean Girls day, Cineplex theatres across Canada are screening the movie for fans of the cult classic to enjoy. If you can't make it to the show, here's a hilarious blooper reel from the set that's almost as good as the movie itself.
