Just one day after returning to their regular scheduled royal duties, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have delivered to the public their most shocking news to date. It was announced that Meghan Markle & Prince Harry's royal departure has become a reality. This new information follows recent rumours that the couple would be moving to Canada in the new year.
On their Instagram page along with a stunning photo of the couple they penned a note to their supporters, "After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."
They also revealed that they would, in fact, be splitting their time between the UK and North America. "We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages."
This comes just days after the couple wrapped up their eight-week vacation at a $14 million beach house estate on Vancouver Island.
When it was revealed that the couple wouldn't be spending Christmas with the rest of the Crown at the Sandringham Estate, and instead be heading to Canada, rumours followed.
The palace refused to respond to "speculation", but the Duke and Duchess have finally revealed their future plans.
While Canada wasn't specifically mentioned in their announcement, as per sources had suggested, the country is part of the Commonwealth. It could also potentially be a location where the couple and son, eight-month-old Archie, plant their roots.
This change comes after a hard year for the two royals. The Duchess of Sussex was attacked by the British tabloids, which led to Prince Harry suing a few companies.
Whether or not the couple ups and moves to Canada, they'll still be closer to loved ones. While vacationing in the Great White North, Meghan and Prince Harry made their way to Toronto to visit her BFF Jessica Mulroney.
The 38-year-old is very familiar with Canada as she filmed the hit show Suits in Toronto for many years. The royals would also be closer to Meghan's mom, Doria Ragland, who currently resides in Los Angeles.
