Miami is full of great bars, bistros, and, of course, beaches! There's never a need to search hard for good nightlife and you can basically walk in any direction and you'll eventually hit water. And we'd be willing to bet you've done the beach-date thing a few too many times.
A stroll down Collins Ave or Ocean Drive and you'll pass everything from oddball mom and pop shops to iconic art deco hotels to high fashion storefronts. (Although we hear DASH is closing, so if you want to get your Kardashian on, we suggesting stopping by sooner rather than later.) No matter what you like to do, Miami has something for you, and it doesn't have to be ordinary.
The dating scene is no different! We love a day at Nikki Beach as much the next guy, but there are plenty of other unique things to do in Miami when you're going out with you S/O. Get ready to have some killer fun in unlikely places.
Hang in Surfside instead of SoBe
Just as beautiful and way less crowded! The city of Surfside is more mellow, so it's often overlooked, but it's really just as impressive as it's counterpart: South Beach. Check out boutiques and quaint dining, or take a romantic stroll across original terracotta floors — from 1930 — as you wander through Peacock Alley at the Four Seasons Hotel. There you'll see paintings from the hotel's past, like the one of Winston Churchill.
Get one of everything at The Salty Donut
Who needs "real food" when there are donuts? The Salty Donut started out as a pop-up and with sweeping popularity, quickly became a brick and mortar in Wynwood. This sweet spot has year-round and weekly rotating flavor choices, including a Dragon + Passion Fruit donut you'll both want to bite into! Like Lady & The Tramp for the modern age.
Go on a glass bottom boat ride
Get swept away with your S/O on a Glassbottom Boat Tour. While riding a high-speed catamaran with the ocean breeze in your hair, you'll see coral reefs filled with ocean wildlife. We're talking everything from stingrays to Nemo! The average Miami dater might forget about this awesome experience since John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is just south of the MIA. But it's more than worth the trip.
Think of the joyful noise your S/O makes when they see a puppy, then triple it, because BABY MONKIES! Established in 1935, Monkey Jungle is a South Florida staple that has stood the test of time. Roam the subtropical grounds and find a wild monkey swimming pool and a gorilla forest. It'll be a swingin' time.
It's a Cycle Party
A bicycle built for 22. Grab your S/O and hop on one of the pedal bar tours by Cycle Party. Meet new friends or round up all the couples you know and rent an entire bike! With eight different Miami tours to choose from, you could go on this date over and over again and it would always be new!
Catch a game
Can't decide between watching the game or playing one? Try GameTime Mega Arcade. Filled with TVs for all your sports-enthusiast needs, you can watch your team score while playing air hockey, skeeball, or pinball. Don't like the classics? There are 56 other games to choose from! We can guarantee this date won't disappoint.
Wander through Little Havana
Holding hands and strolling through Little Havana sounds like the perfect date to us. Discover the Cuban culture of Miami in this colorful section of town. Stop by the historical Ball & Chain bar for a Calle Ocho Old Fashioned. Then salsa dance the night away to their nightly live music.
Go roller skating
That's right! You can still grab your skates and throw it back to the '80s at your local Super Wheels Skating Rink. A few laps and you and your date will feel like a couple of kids again. Or if you're into adulting, try 17+ skate on Monday nights. If you fall? At least it will be into your lovers' arms.
Do a Taco Tuesday date night right
We all know how important Taco Tuesday is in Miami. Good luck finding a table at Rocco's Tacos. Instead, try Tacos and Tattoos where they're using abuela's taco recipes and cold beer to start the night off right. Keep it going with customized music stations, karaoke, and even stand-up comedy and poetry open mic nights! A one-stop shop for all your date night delights.
Have a romantic rendezvous at Vizcaya
Step back in time at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. This century-old villa on Biscayne Bay is filled with glamorous rooms and extravagant gardens inspired by 17th and 18th century Italian and French royal landscapes. Top it off with high tea at The Vizcaya Café, but be sure to make a reservation in advance, because this is a day you'll want to be perfect.
Nerds do it better
You don't have to be a bookworm to go crazy for Books and Books. This locally owned landmark is perfect for an out-of-the-ordinary date. Take your honey to their next books signing event or a book mixer where chefs with new books do signings and cook! Dinner and a good book? Sounds like a plan.
Pizza in the park
Pizza on date night is about as classic as it comes. But you can kick this outing up a notch by ordering ahead at Harry's Pizzeria in Coconut Grove. Try their Peach and Gorgonzola pie if you're feeling adventurous. Then walk just down the block to Peacock Park where you can picnic under the SoFla sun. Thirsty? Try Glass & Vine located right in the park!
Boatwatch at Bayfront Park
Like people watching, but with no risk of eye contact! Grab a snack as you stroll through the Bayside Marketplace and end up at Bayfront Park where there's always a beautiful boat going by. This is the place to be with your sweetheart at sunset. But if you're feeling adventurous, try Bayfront's Trapeze School!
Start your date right with sunrise yoga
Grab your mat and your beau and hit the sand. 3rd Street Beach Yoga offers 7 am sunrise classes every day of the week and they're by donation only! So give what you can and get the most out of your morning at the beach. And if you're not morning people, they offer 6 pm classes, too.
You heard right! You'll be amazed what you'll find in the corners of an ancient treasure shop like Cherry Picked Vintage Market. You might even discover something new about your S/O. Maybe you'll bond over your fear of a creepy doll, but discover your mutual love of old comic books and quirky lamps. It's fun to find something new within something old.
Stare at the wall
Or walls ... Wynwood Walls that is! Wynwood has quickly become the hottest up-and-coming spot in the MIA. Full of world-class murals, boutiques, and dining options for days, you can spend the entire day in Wynwood constantly seeing something new. We suggest grabbing some Panther Coffee to kick off your day. And Instagram husbands beware! You're going to need your camera ready for this place!
Fly through the air on a boat
You read that right. Airboat tours are an absolute SoFla must. The Everglades might not be your first thought for a date, but it's time to add it to the list. Gator Park's airboats fly through the water at nearly 40mph. On the way, you'll see gators, deer, and tons of other wildlife that'll make for a great adventure you can experience together.
Go retro with your beau
This jukebox bar has the drinks and jams of your dreams. '80s music is piped throughout, and you'll feel like you took your date on a trip through the decades. Try one of the modern twists on classic 80s/90s drinks like their Sex on the Bus (instead of the beach). And what are Sundays for if not karaoke?
Let's go fly a kite
There are few joys that can compare to the first time you get your kite in the air. Why not experience it with your S/O. South Florida was made for outdoor fun, and flying kites at Haulover Park is a thrill you an enjoy daily. Head over to Skyward Kites — located right in the park! — and pick out your very own kite. You and your S/O will have your head in the clouds on this date.
Let a bug land on you
Sounds like the perfect date, no? We kid. However, a butterfly might take residence atop your nose while on your date at Butterfly World. Sure, this one requires a drive just north of MIA, but there's nothing quite like it in all of South Florida. Explore the colorful world of the monarchs at this fairytale date spot.
Dine finely at a South Florida classic
The Rusty Pelican is, without doubt, a staple of the Florida coast. And if you haven't had date night here yet, you need to. Sitting right on the Rickenbacker Marina, this restaurant has unbeatable ocean views at any time of day. If you're looking for romance, plan for a dressed-up night at this Florida fave.
PS - There's always Sunday brunch if you need seconds!
Check out El Patio
Change it up from the typical bar scene and check out El Patio in Wynwood instead. With beautifully strung lights, vinery draping every corner, and inventive cocktails, this lavish outdoor bar has it all. Dance or snuggle till 3 am nightly and be on the lookout for their $5 happy hour(s)!
Be ballsy ... literally
If you're not afraid of a little skin, boy, do we have a beach for you! In this age, people are becoming more and more open about their bodies and sexuality. If you're that couple, maybe a day at Haulover's nude beach would be right up your alley. Besides bare bodies, this beach has no dog restrictions, (yay, puppies!), beautiful clear waters, and plenty of sunshine ... moon shine?
Take a trek through the jungle
Formerly Parrot Jungle, the new and improved Jungle Island has expanded from a bird sanctuary to practically an amusement park. You and your date can enjoy the birds of paradise, a waterpark, indoor skydiving, ziplining, and more all on Watson Island in Miami.
Pretend you're a tourist with Duck Tours
And no, we don't mean bird watching. Duck Tours is the perfect date idea when you want to see SoBe from a new perspective. Their amphibious cars will take you and your S/O all around the Magic City, pointing out historic landmarks, (and seamarks!), along the way. They'll even test your knowledge with some Miami trivia and you can see how much you know about your city.
Going to the mall for your next date might not seem like an inventive outing, but you'll be changing your tune once your visit the Shops at Merrick Park in the Gables. This gorgeous outdoor mall is a world of its own, full of white columns, lush green foliage, and twinkling lights that glow even brighter at night. Try it on a Sunday during their weekly Farmers Market, then spend the afternoon at the shops and finish the night at Landmark Theatres.
Catch a movie
Going to the movies is anything but ordinary at the Coral Gables Art Cinema. You know how in every romcom the couple goes to a cool old theatre and sees a classic film that hasn't been playing for 20+ years and you ask yourself, where does that exist? Well, this is where!
Go to college football game
This is hard for us to say, because, *cough* go 'Noles *cough*, but if you're in the MIA, consider catching a 'Canes game! We've all been to a Dolphins game, (and often had our hearts wrenched because of it). But you can also catch the Canes playing at the same stadium, but you and your S/O will feel more like college sweethearts than raging NFL-ers in this setting!
Get a bird's-eye view of the city
Don't let your fear keep you from the fun. Parasailing is an amazing date you should have done by now! South Beach Parasail will give you the ultimate view of the city and its beaches. It'll just be you and your love flying through the skies. Any excuse to hang onto each other tight, right? Just don't look down. *hums Jaws theme*
Spend the afternoon at Cauley Square
Fall head-over-heels for Florida at historic Cauley Square. This is one of those places you'd miss every time if you didn't know it was there. But Cauley Square has so many romantic things to offer, from the Tea Room to art galleries and photogenic gardens. Later, follow the Historic Redland Tropical Trail to a gator farm, bonsai garden, and more!
Enjoy some art together
Art museums don't have to be dull. Grab your date and swing by Perez Art Museum Miami for a unique day trip. Sure, there's classic art, but PAMM also has installations of miniature boats that hang from the ceiling, and others for the World Cup. This is a modern museum done right. If all else fails, nothing quite beats the giggles when making fun of a weird art piece with your S/O.
