Dancing in the sun, cool coastal breezes, and tons of great music, it's no wonder why so many people look forward to Ultra Music Festival every year. Usually, the event comes and goes with little to no incident, but after a location change, this year was a little more hectic.
This year, Ultra was hosted on the island of Virginia Key, meaning thousands of partygoers were stranded for hours after the show waiting to get a shuttle from the island back to mainland Miami, according to several news sources. Sound familiar?
After the disastrous Fyre Festival in 2017, leaving thousands of attendees stranded on an island "paradise," people have now been calling Ultra 'Fyre Festival 2.'
Many people, described as "hoards of rowdy revelers" by Fox News got so tired of waiting for a shuttle they opted to walk across the Rickenbacker Causeway to get back to Miami instead of waiting for buses. The Causeway is 5.4 miles from one end to the other.
The festival released an official statement on Saturday in response to the negative backlash, saying the transportation issue on Friday was "unacceptable and inconsistent with the high standards" expected by the many fans of this music fest. They even promised to offer "significantly improved" transportation for the rest of the weekend.
You can read the official statement below in its entirety.
REPORT: We're hearing shuttles at #UltraMiami have stopped due to an accident on the route forcing thousands of ravers to walk across the bridge to Downtown Miami, which is over a mile long.Photo Credit: @BWilliams_38 pic.twitter.com/vZdNSRTuB2
Their social media has been blowing up with thousands of comments, and here's what some people had to say in response on Twitter:
Ultra Miami is literally the new Fyre festival 😂😂😭 pic.twitter.com/fCgCbuXxy2
Blame the Brickell residents that forced the move. Ultra came and went for years without making Miami look this incompetent. All transportation, lodging and logistics were right there in downtown. Now it’s the Fyre Festival.
hearing that @ultra is basically Fyre Fest 2 is so fucking funny, please stop coming to miami just to trash the place and listen to your wubdub music
This Ultra festival sounds like the Fyre festival 2.0. Glad i left Miami yesterday. And at this point the only festival we acknowledge is Coachella
And I mean actual shit show. That smell was atrocious. Leaving was a nightmare. Definitely fyre 2.0 on Virginia Beach Island. Kiss the ultra Miami name goodbye.
Of course, the internet is a little dramatic, Ultra wasn't quite as bad as Fyre, as demonstrated by this comment:
People at Ultra calling it fyre fest 2.0 lmao1. The festival actually happened 2. You had to walk across a bridge in downtown miami, not be stranded on a island in a foreign country with little to no food or shelter with no way home for 3 days.
No additional statements in response to the comments have been released by the festival. You can see more comments and information about the festival on their social media page here.
