This Sunday you might want to sleep in or schedule a late morning brunch. More than 25,000 runners are meeting at the American Airlines Arena for the FITBIT Miami Marathon and you might want to plan another road exit in case you need to leave home early. Many roads are going to be closed during the Miami Marathon and there are streets you need to avoid in case you want to start your Sunday Funday in peace.

The closures will begin Friday at noon in Biscayne Boulevard between SE 2nd Street and NE 2nd Street to allow implementation of the finish line. Take note, the northbound lanes at Biscayne Boulevard will be closed and rerouted to westbound on SE 2nd Street.

So, if you're planning to get a 'cafecito' early in the morning around Downtown, maybe you want to reconsider going west.

Other road closures will begin on Saturday at 8 pm. All northbound traffic entering Biscayne Boulevard will be rerouted to westbound on SE 2nd street. Also, prepare for detours on the southbound lane. Traffic will be detoured at NE 1st Street then re-routed westbound. Biscayne Boulevard will also be closed via north and south from NE 1st Street to SE 1st Street.

The marathon is until 11 am but road closures will continue until late afternoon. The rest of the road closures will start on Sunday at 5 am. Maybe you could join the marathon and avoid the road rage all together.

Expect to see runners blocking the streets around Edgewater, Wynwood, Miami Beach, and Downtown Miami. The closures are expected to reopen on Sunday at 5 pm.
