You Can Get The Best BBQ Food From A Hidden Converted Boat In Miami

Something is smokin' in Hialeah.

Instead of a food truck, there is a food boat and is stationed in Hialeah. If you're feeling a little hungry and looking for unique places to eat in Miami, Benni Jama is a Cuban-style barbecue joint serving the most amazing briskets, ribs and chicken you will ever taste.

This is not your typical hole-in-the-wall barbecue restaurant where you get a sugar-loaded brisket with dark red sauce; Andrew Gonzalez and Paul Asper are paying homage to their Hispanic heritage with an original Cuban menu in an outdoor venue where a boat serves as their food truck.

It is a real boat if you are wondering. The motor houseboat used to serve beachgoers in Haulover Sandbar but the location was not as lucrative as keeping the boat inland.

"Jama" which means food in Cuban is part of the moniker of their business. Benni used to be a pig mascot who was lost years ago. Hence, Benni Jama was born and the pig mascot remains as a symbol of their early beginnings.

Tucked away in Hialeah Gardens between residential homes and businesses you will find this barbecue joint which serves the "BEST" Cuban-style barbecue with mojo flavor.

The food boat opened two months ago and locals have been finding it by word of mouth or serendipity. Benni Jama is still in its early stages and currently, it features a tiki hut with benches and a remodeled parking lot.

Within the half-acre property, you can expect a tropical environment and a small village waiting to be beautified. Andrew Gonzalez is a landscaper working on the rest of the property and he's expecting to feature his home-grown roots around the property.

Benni Jama is expected to have an edible landscape with orange trees, guarapo, bananas and over 100 varieties of species.

Besides criollo-style dishes, the property will feature Hispanic art. Gonzalez explained to Narcity he's currently working in adorning the site with black and white images representing Hispanic artists, Cuban singers, and other entertainers. The space will also feature Dominoes tables, rocking chairs and more tchotchkes representative of Cuban culture.

Benni Jama is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Just find the red boat near the street and put your windows down; you will definitely notice something is smokin'.
