Do you want to stay safe but rep your favourite basketball team at the same time? NBA face masks are here and you can get yourself a Raptors one or for any other team you like. Plus, the proceeds go to help a good cause.
The league announced on April 17 that it's selling face coverings that people can buy and use to slow the spread of COVID-19.
"As a global community, we can all play a role in reducing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic by following the CDC’s recommendation to cover our nose and mouth while in public,” said Kathy Behrens, NBA President of Social Responsibility and Player Programs, in a news release.
In the U.S., the CDC has recommended the use of face coverings especially in areas where it's difficult to keep a safe distance.
Here at home, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada's Chief Public Health Officer, has said that wearing a non-medical mask is an additional measure people can take.
With these new options from the NBA, you can take that additional measure while showing support for your favourite team.
They're available for all 30 teams in the league and have team-specific designs.
If you want to avoid speaking moistly on people, this could help do the trick.
There are four different designs for Raptors fans.
You can get a simple white one with the team's basketball image in red.
There's also a red mask that has "Toronto Raptors" in white, a red one with the basketball logo design in black, and a red one with the team's logo and name in black, white and grey.
All of the coverings are made of cloth with some being 100% cotton while others have a polyester/spandex outer layer and a cotton liner.
All of the proceeds made from the sale of these new masks will go to Second Harvest, a food rescue organization here in Canada.
"In Canada, we have seen the need for access to good food more than double since the pandemic began, and there are thousands of people working on the frontlines to feed people during this crisis," said Lori Nikkel, CEO of Second Harvest, in a news release.
Also, one face covering will be donated to the organization for every item that's purchased.
So these masks being available for personal use from a big brand is a different initiative than what we've been seeing before.
