Netflix Canada Is Dropping 20 Horror Movies This October And These Are The Spookiest Ones

Fall is one of the best times of the year to get cozy, sit down with a bowl of popcorn, and watch a good spooky movie. Whether you are into thrillers or classic scary movies that leave you sleeping with the lights on, Netflix usually has us covered.

Unfortunately, while we don't have a new season of "Stranger Things" to binge like we did this time last year, Netflix isn't leaving us out to dry, thanks to their new "Netflix and Chill" promotion.

To kick off Halloween season, Netflix Canada is releasing a ton of new and old fan favourites, as well as their own original series, that are sure to send a chill up your spine. Meaning the month of October is officially designated for binge-watching in the name of Halloween spirit!

Here are the best and most highly-rated arrivals in Netflix Canada's special Halloween release.

The Ritual 

After four men suddenly lose their best friend to a violent death, they decide to treck out into the wilderness together to bond. Unfortunately, they find themselves the new targets of a hellish nightmare involving pagan sacrifices that is home to an evil entity that wants to force them to find the darkness within themselves.

Gerald's Game 

A man and his wife travel to a lake house in a remote area on vacation in efforts to rekindle their love for each other. To get things started the husband, Gerald, handcuffs his wife Jessie to the bedframe. Unfortunately, things go horribly wrong when Gerald has a heart attack right after he handcuffs his wife. Meaning the wife is left restrained and alone with her dead husband on top of her, with no idea how to escape and get help. The movie is based on one of Stephen King's own works.

'1922' is another movie based off of a Stephen King story. This movie follows a man' life as he confesses to killing his own wife with the aid of his son. Though after he buries her, he realizes he is being haunted by her.

Considering this movie was made by the people behind 'Insidious,' it's practically guaranteed to scare the sh*t out of you. The story follows a prisoner who has been put into interrogation, but while being interrogated, flips the script on the people questioning him in a big way.

Little Evil 

If you're a 'Parks and Recreation' or 'Big Little Lies' fan, you'll be happy to know that Adam Scott stars in this spooky flick. The movie follows a man named Gary who has married the "love of his life," Samanta, who is bringing her 5-year-old boy into the relationship. As time progresses and the odd child's actions start to get weirder and weirder, Gary becomes convinced the child is the spawn of Satan.

The Purge: Election Year 

'Election Year' is the latest addition to the iconic 'Purge' franchise that has been freaking people out since the first release in 2013. In this latest addition, Former Police Sergeant Barnes becomes head of security for Senator Charlie Roan, a Presidential candidate targeted for death on Purge night, due to her vow to eliminate the Purge.

Dawn of the Dead 

If you're a fan of 'The Walking Dead,' you'll love this flick if you haven't watched it already. The story follows a group of survivors trying to survive while a plague is turning mass amounts of the population into flesh-eating zombies.

Who doesn't love Casper the friendly ghost?! The iconic story of a ghost who just wants to be loved follows a little girl and her father who move into what they believe is an old empty house. When in actuality the property already has residents inside: four ghosts.

This flick follows a wickedly talented baker and artist named Christine McConnell. From there, you see her terrifyingly delicious home where she creates delectable confections and hauntingly disturbing decor with the help of her colourful collection of creatures.

After growing up, David works as a man who visits people to help them realize the supernatural experiences they claim they are having aren't true - that is until one case brings him to an alleged haunted house where he sees the spirit of his sister.

A reporter named Angela and her cameraman Pablo decide to follow firefighters investigating a call regarded a woman locked in her unit to film a part of their segment for their show "When You're Asleep." Everything seems fine when they are in the building until the firefighters are finally able to bust down the door. At that point, as the situation unfolds, Pablo hits the record button. Pablo continues to film the horrifying experience from the inside.

While the 'Scary Movie' franchise isn't necessarily the most stunning cinematic work in Hollywood, especially when it comes to the horror genre, it's definitely pretty entertaining and a cult classic. Follow the hilarious adventures of actors such as Anna Faris, Charlie Sheen and Ashley Tisdale throughout the hilarious "scary" storyline when the entire franchise gets released!

'Scream' is another fan-favourite series for scary movie lovers. This story follows the town of Woodsboro dealing with a killer on the loose who's seen a few too many scary movies. While members of the town are trying to figure out who the killer could be, one thing is for sure - they love trivia.

The Cabin in the Woods 

Five friends decide to stay in a cabin in the remote woods for some fun before they realize they've gotten themselves into a very deep and dark situation. The teens are put through a horrifying experience inside that is almost too freaky to watch, but we still say you should watch it anyway. Plus, if you want to see pre-'Thor' Chris Hemsworth in action, this is a great place to start.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

While the series isn't out yet, the 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' has quickly become one of the most anticipated Netflix releases for this month. The Haunting Of Hill House
