The series starts out with Marie Adler (played by Kaitlyn Dever), who files a police report after being sexually assaulted. As the investigation goes on, the officials assigned to her case as well as those closest to her begin to doubt her story.
A short while later, two detectives in a town far away happen to cross paths while investigating sexual assault cases that are eerily similar. The nature of these crimes causes the detectives to realize that perhaps they're dealing with the same individual. He's just hopping from town to town to avoid getting caught.
