Netflix's New Sci-Fi Series Is Being Called The Next Black Mirror And It Looks Absolutely Terrifying
If you have a Sci-Fi-shaped hole thanks to Stranger Things wrapping up, Netflix has your answer.
The streaming site has unveiled the first look at its upcoming show Altered Carbon, and honestly, it looks pretty damn terrifying. It's a 10-episode series based on the bestselling novel by Richard K. Morgan, and it also happens to be one of Netflix's most expensive shows ever.
Set hundreds of years in the future, Altered Carbon is sci-fi murder mystery following a soldier/investigator named Takeshi Kovacs played by Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad, House of Cards). In the show's freaky AF universe, people can download their consciousness into new bodies, or "sleeves" as they call them. Creeped out yet?
In Morgan's novel, Kovacs, a dead soldier, is brought back to life centuries after his mind was kept “on ice.” Earth's wealthiest man, Laurens Bancroft, then hires him for an unusual and honestly pretty freaky task: Figure out who murdered his former body. The novel was followed by two sequels, which gives Netflix plenty of options for future seasons.
As for what we can expect from the trailer, think a mix between Black Mirror and Blade Runner. There are plenty of neon lights, action and some shady and definitely unethical future ongoings.
Altered Carbon launches on Netflix Friday, February 2nd.
