Mindy Kaling's New Netflix Series May Be The Funniest Thing You'll Watch This Month

Get ready to laugh harder than you have in weeks! One of the many shows coming to Netflix before April ends is Never Have I Ever, a coming-of-age comedy straight from the mind of Mindy Kaling. The series follows the same overlying plot as some of the other teen shows that you know and love, but this one is actually totally different.
Back in 2019, Kaling put out a worldwide casting call on her social media as she went on the hunt to find a star for her new Netflix series. Out of 15,000 responses, The Mindy Project star went with Mississauga’s own Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
After the initial casting announcement, not much talk was heard about Never Have I Ever—until this March, that is. Last month it was announced that the new series would be coming to the streaming service in April, and yesterday, Netflix finally released the trailer for the upcoming show.
According to the synopsis, the series follows Devi, a first-generation Indian American as she navigates her sophomore year of high school. In the trailer, Devi makes it clear to her two best friends that this will be “their year”, but in order to ensure success, they need to rebrand themselves.

Never Have I Ever stars Poorna Jagannathan (Messiah), Lee Rodriguez (Grown-ish), Richa Moorjani (NCIS: Los Angeles), Benjamin Norris (The Pregame), Adam Shapiro (Sense8), and Ramona Young (Santa Clarita Diet), among others.
According to PEOPLE, Kaling spoke about the series at a Netflix brunch in February and had a lot of excitement about telling a semi-biographical story reflecting on her childhood.
“Nerds are not only the wallflowers and the quiet ones. We’re ambitious, we have obnoxious personalities sometimes, we want to have sex and dreams like all the other kids,” the 40-year-old said.
“I felt lucky to be able to do a show about an Indian nerd who’s also badly behaved…because I’m deeply familiar with it.”
