Ontario's New COVID-19 Cases Are The Lowest They Have Been In Almost 2 Months (VIDEO)

It seems that Ontarians got a brief glimmer of hope on Tuesday morning. The government has announced that 287 new cases were reported across the province on May 25. This is the lowest number that the province has seen since March 31, when 260 new COVID-19 cases in Ontario were reported.

According to the Ontario government's website, this brings the number of cases across the province to 26,191.

Out of these cases, 19,958 have been resolved, while 2,123 deaths have been reported.

The news comes after Ontario had been facing a slight increase in cases over the past few weeks.

In fact, last week, the province saw numbers reaching over 400 for five straight days. 

On May 21, the government reported 441 new cases, which was the highest that the province had seen in two weeks.

Earlier this month, Premier Doug Ford announced that the province was starting stage one of its reopening plan.

Since then, retailers, off-leash dog parks and other select businesses have been able to open their doors with strict safety measures in place. 

However, Ford has noted that if they see the numbers starting to rise again, that Ontario would “roll things back in a heartbeat.”

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott also warned on Monday that the province would hold off on allowing gatherings of more than five people due to the recent spike in cases.

Since the province has started to slowly reopen, residents are still being warned to practice social distancing to help flatten the curve. 

However, it seems that not everyone is following those rules. 

Over the weekend, thousands gathered to Trinity Bellwoods Park and many were reported to neither be practicing social distancing nor wearing any face coverings.
