Here's Everything You Need To Know About The Calgary Pedestrian Hit By The C-Train Today

The area is now closed off.

Just before 9 a.m. this morning a woman was struck and killed by the Calgary C-Train. The incident happened at the 36 Street and 39 Ave NE intersection, and the area has since been blocked off.

Calgary Transit has also shut down both the Whitehorn and McKnight stations in order to properly and efficiently deal with the tragedy.

Calgary Transit sent out a tweet to inform other passengers about the incident, informing them that buses were on the way to help them reach their final destinations until transit is back up and running.

Kamardeep Dhillion responded to Calgary Transit's tweet, saying that over 400 people were stuck at the McKnight C-Train station after the incident occurred.

Upon reaching the scene, EMS paramedics declared the woman who had been hit by the C-Train as deceased. After watching the CCTV footage, Inspector Ken Thrower says that the woman appeared to be distracted prior to the incident, and had almost walked into oncoming traffic on 36th Street.

Thrower explained that the C-Train lights were flashing as per usual, but the woman was looking the other way, stepped forward, and was fatally hit.

Calgary Transit has yet to release any other statements, and the roads in the area, as well as transit, will remain closed until further notice.
