If you know anything about Banksy, it's that he doesn't play by anyone's rules. The famous street artist is known for his controversial artwork and for doing anything for the sake of his art.
So, we're not completely surprised that just yesterday, he pulled off his most memorable (and shocking) art show yet.
If you're a fan of Banksy's, then you've definitely heard of "Girl With Balloon". It's one of his most famous and oldest pieces. The iconic piece depicts a girl holding onto a heart-shaped balloon that's floating away from her.
On Friday night, it was sold by Sotheby's in London. The iconic piece was sold for 1,042,000 euros at a live auction. Yes, over 1 million euros is a ton of money and yes, Banksy is definitely worth it. Fans from all over the world travel just to catch a glimpse of his pieces spraypainted across famous cities, so why not pay a cool one million to have it in your home?
But there was one problem.
Right after the gavel dropped and the winning bid was announced, something unbelievable happened.
A concealed shredder inside the heavy frame that held the artwork activated and the expensive piece of art began quickly shredding through the bottom of the frame. Everyone in the room was shocked as they saw this happen before their eyes! Yes, moments after the piece was sold, the piece of art actually self-destructed.
Moments after, the piece was dangling in strips. This isn't the first time that Banksy has taken the opportunity to deliver a strong message or as we'd like to think, an epic prank, and it definitely won't be the last time either.
Banksy just shared a video showing how the whole incident occurred and how he came up with the idea. You can watch down below.
