2 Multi-Million Lotto Prizes Were Won In The Same Canadian Region Less Than 2 Weeks Apart
There must be something in the water!
Playing the lottery can sometimes be a fruitless endeavour, but sometimes it can result in some exceptionally lucky wins. Especially, it seems, if you live in Quebec. Two multi-million dollar Lotto 6/49 winning tickets were sold in exactly the same Quebec region, less than two weeks apart. There must be something in the water there!
In the Lotto 6/49 draw on February 8, a couple from Quebec's Montérégie area won the $9 million jackpot.
"I instantly started crying tears of joy," Carole Champagne Gagné said at the Loto-Québec winners' lounge.
Only 10 days before that, a group of six friends and former co-workers, also from the Montérégie area, won the same jackpot in Lotto 6/49's draw on January 29.
The pals had been playing the lottery together for a number of years, and it seems to have finally paid off.
Quebec's Montérégie region includes seven cities and is home to just over 1.5 million people. While this sounds like a lot, don't underestimate how unlikely this coincidence is.
In fact, according to Ontario Lottery and Gaming, the odds of getting all six numbers and winning 79.5% of the funds are only 1 in 13,983,816 per $3 pay!
With her new $9 million jackpot winnings, Champagne Gagné plans to move up her retirement date but otherwise has yet to make plans for all of her new cash.
The group of friends plans to celebrate their big win by going on a fancy cruise to enjoy life as new millionaires.
Even the places that sold the winning tickets will get a share of the prize money.
Both Montérégie locations will get a 1% commission of the grand total, leaving them with approximately $90,000 each.
The odds of winning any sort of prize with Lotto 6/49, whether it's the jackpot or just a free play, is 1 in 6.6 per $3 play.
The main jackpot starts at $5 million, and simply keeps growing until it has been won.
Lotto draws happen every Wednesday and Saturday.
If you're located in the Montérégie region, it might be worth buying a ticket this week!
