A Calgary Parent Is Calling Out A School's 'Modesty & Moderation' Dress Code
Is that a BELLY BUTTON?
A concerned parent in Alberta says that Calgary's school dress code is too controlling, especially to young girls.
Dress codes are tools to shame & control students.
Dr. Doreen Rabi
Attached in her tweet is a screengrab of the school's policy stating thatmust have modest clothing and should avoid drawing attention to themselves.
The attachment also says that students must have clean clothes that are in good repair and should wear shorts, tops, and skirts of “modest length.”
Rabi noted that things like hoodies, belly buttons, and cleavage don't harm other students and could be policies that diminish and discriminate against kids.
