Pirates in the making or investigative extraordinaires? Either way, an Alberta family is doing the happy dance after finding a $100,000 buried treasure in Edmonton over the weekend. While this prize has been claimed, two more buried treasures, also worth $100,000, are still out there.
This past weekend, starting on Saturday, June 1, 2019, Canadians in BC and Alberta had the opportunity to find $100,000 worth of buried treasure thanks to Gold Hunt. This Canadian company announced earlier this year that they would be hiding three treasure chests full of $100,000 worth of silver and gold around Canada.
The company claimed to have buried the treasure in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. In order to find the gold, people could purchase a map for $35 or $55 for a map and a series of riddles and clues to aid in your search.
People were getting hyped on the potential of finding riches but out of all three buried treasures, only one was found in Alberta so far!
According to the Calgary Sun, the treasure hunt ended at around 8:52 PM on Saturday when Byron and Jody Duff, along with their children Logan and Brylee, found the treasure together. The $100,000 worth of silver and gold was allegedly found after 20 hours of hunting.
The Calgary Sun spoke with Byron, who said his family likes playing logic games together, including puzzles and geocaching. So it’s no surprise that a game like this was right up the family's alley.
Following the sweet find, Gold Hunt posted a video of the family on their Facebook page. In the video, you can see the family smile in disbelief as to what just happened.
“I’m speechless,” said 16-year-old Logan. “Because we worked together we shared our strengths and it helped a lot more.”
While you may not have won the Edmonton buried treasure, you can still find the Vancouver and Calgary pots of gold. Maps and clues to the other locations are still available for purchase through the Gold Hunt website.
But that’s not all! The company told the Calgary Star that if successful, they want to continue this event all across Canada. Currently, the treasure hunt is limited to BC and Alberta. They also said that with investors behind the game, $1 million could be given away over the next three years!
