Lethbridge police have stated in a news release today that the incident took place at the woman's home along the 3000 block of Fairway Street South.

Police were called to the scene at around 7 PM on May 22, 2019, after neighbours heard screaming. One neighbour even saw the woman struggling to fight off a man in her garage.

According to the statement released by Lethbridge police, it is believed that the suspect broke into the woman’s home early in the morning on May 21, 2019, and spent the night in the basement bedroom. The entire time, the woman was sleeping upstairs.

The following evening, the woman was watching TV when she heard a noise and went to check it out. This is when she saw the intruder.

At the time of the incident, the suspect wore a mask. Once he saw the woman, he assaulted her several times and then dragged her to her own garage. He then fled the house using the woman’s vehicle.

At around 10:40 PM, an officer dealing with an unrelated matter saw a vehicle drive by with its headlights turned off. The license plate matched the stolen vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was recovered.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she was treated for multiple injuries including several broken bones in her nose and other head injuries.

Police have stated that the suspect, 21-year-old Adam Hall Hobkirk-Onate of Ottawa, has no ties to the city of Lethbridge.

He has since been charged with assault causing boldly harm, housebreaking and commit robbery, and disguise with intent* and is expected to appear in court on May 27, 2019.
