The suspect responsible for the Red Deer doctor's killer has officially been charged.

In a statement sent to Narcity on Tuesday, August 11, Red Deer RCMP announced that they've charged 54-year-old Deng Marbiour with first-degree murder, assault of a police officer, and an assault with a weapon.

This was not a random attack, and the first-degree murder charge speaks to the premeditated nature of this incident.

Superintendent Gerald Grobmeier

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Walter Reynolds, who was attacked by Marbiour with a weapon at a walk-in clinic in Red Deer.

Reynolds was transported to a hospital following the attack where he died as a result of life-threatening injuries.

Marbiour is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on August 12.
