An Air Canada Glitch Left Passengers Waiting For Hours At Airports Around The World

When you're travelling you never want to encounter any issues whether you're in the air or still on the ground. Recently, though people were unable to board their flights to international destinations with one Canadian airline. The Air Canada delays after a system glitch left passengers stranded for hours at airports around the world.
On January 23 and January 24, a server issue that affected the airline's network caused hours-long delays in airports not only here but for travellers coming from international destinations as well.
With the system failure, the check-in kiosks for the Canadian carrier were down. So staff were forced to use different check-in and boarding processes.
A spokesperson from Vancouver International Airport told Global News that they were manually checking in people at kiosks.
At the airport in Zurich, agents for the airline were actually making hand-written boarding passes for customers.
Since it's 2020, people took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with the situation.
One person said that it was "chaos here in Tokyo trying to get to Vancouver."
"We're stuck at the gate. Been at the airport 4 hours now. Still have a 10 hour flight ahead," another person tweeted.
Most people said they were delayed for two to four hours.
Not getting on your flight for two hours might not sound bad but if those people got to the airport hours before their flights to be safe then they probably waited a long time to finally take off.
According to The Canadian Press, Air Canada said the problem has been fixed and apologized to people who had flights impacted by the network issue.
Operations should be back to normal now.
New compensation rules for delayed or cancelled flights came into effect on December 15 but it's only if the delays or cancellations are within the airline's control.
Air Canada hasn't said if passengers affected by the IT problems will be compensated for the delays.
