Canadians on social media are calling out Andrew Scheer for his ‘obsession with Trudeau’ once again this weekend, after the Conservative Party leader tweeted that Justin Trudeau has been focused on “personal attacks” during the election campaign. Within minutes of Scheer’s tweet, hundreds of Canadians responded to accuse him of hypocrisy, arguing that Scheer is constantly trash-talking Trudeau on his social media channels.
In a tweet on Friday evening, Andrew Scheer wrote, “While Justin Trudeau is focused on personal attacks, I’m focused on you and the things I can do to help make your life more affordable.”
The tweet included a 30-second video of Andrew Scheer, seeming to make a dig at Trudeau. The Conservative leader opened by saying, “Justin Trudeau is at it again.” Before adding, “He’s launching personal attacks and making things up that aren’t true. He did it to Jody Wilson Reybold, now he’s doing it to me.”
After spending the first 20 seconds of the clip speaking about Trudeau, Scheer goes on to say, “Instead, I’ll stay focused on you, and the things I can do to make your life more affordable.”
However, Canadians were quick to criticize Andrew Scheer for the video, calling him out for being hypocritical, as many people argued that he is often posting ‘personal attacks’ on Justin Trudeau.
One Twitter user wrote, “Are you serious? Is there a micro-ounce of self-awareness in your remote-controlled programming? All you've done for months is lie about #Trudeau & make nasty misleading statements about him. Now you're above it all Andy? Don't piss in my ear & tell me it's raining.”
While another said, “You and your Party are the Party of Personal Attacks. To name a few, Trudeau’s socks, hair, tears, trust fund, friends, etc.”
Another Twitter user commented to say, “Is this satire? You need only compare Justin Trudeau’s twitter feed to Andrew Scheer’s; the @liberal_party’s to @CPC_HQ’s to see where the negativity rests.”
The same user went on to add, “We could do that comparison if you want. Look at the first 20 tweets on Scheer’s feed - how many times does Trudeau’s name appear (hint - it’s 6). Now do Trudeau’s feed, with Harper or Scheer’s name (psst - neither show up at all).”
This is not the first time that Andrew Scheer has been accused of being constantly bashing the Prime Minister. Last month, the Conservative leader was called out after repeatedly calling on the RCMP to investigate Trudeau’s role in the SNC-Lavalin scandal.
After posting numerous tweets about Trudea’s involvement, Scheer was criticized heavily by Canadians, with some suggesting that he was literally the only one who still cared about the scandal.
With the federal election now only weeks away, relations between the two party leaders are more tense than ever.
The federal election is scheduled for October 21, and there is no doubt that both Scheer and Trudeau are preparing for a bloody-fight to the finish line.
