As the leader of the Conservative Party, Andrew Scheer and his family have been in the spotlight for the past couple of months. Most of Canada likely views Scheer as someone who has worked his way up the political ladder. However, his wife Jill Scheer still views him as her normal husband. In fact, in an interview with The Globe and Mail Andrew Scheer's Wife, Jill admitted that she thought politics would only be a side thing for Scheer and he would eventually go back to selling insurance.
The pair met while attending the University of Ottawa. Jill knew Scheer way before he ever stepped into the political limelight. In fact, when Scheer was attending school, he actually worked at Danbry's restaurant.
Marrying Jill and settling down in Regina by 2003, Andrew Scheer picked up a job as an insurance broker at his friend's company for a brief period of time.
However, Jill Scheer did admit to The Globe and Mail that she knew her husband was interested in running in politics from the day she met him. Yet, while she knew that he wanted to be involved in the political scene, she never guessed that he would one day be in a campaign to run the country.
In fact, Jill Scheer admits that she thought politics would only be a side hobby for Andrew Scheer before he would go back to selling insurance.
She told the Globe and Mail, "It didn’t come as a huge surprise to me, right after we got married that he wanted to run, but I just thought, oh, this is his little side thing that he’s going to give a try and then he’ll go back to selling insurance and yeah ... not that I didn’t believe in him – just that it seemed like a wild dream."
While neither of the pair was able to see just how far Scheer's journey would go in politics, he has since climbed the political ladder to become the leader of the Conservatives, making Jill realize that this wouldn't just be a hobby after all.
Now Jill is starting to adjust to the political scene that may be in their life for the next four years. In fall 2018, Jill stated to Ottawa Life that mornings are hectic with five children, but they are adjusting to life in Ottawa as well.
Even though Scheer is campaigning a lot, when he is home, he loves spending time with the family.
While Jill may not have expected to be by the side of her husband as he ran for Prime Minister of Canada, she is extremely supportive, stating to Globe and Mail that she fully believes in her husband's political journey.
