If this story doesn’t warm your heart, then I don’t know what will. Recently, a Canadian woman in her 90s was acting uncooperatively after hearing that her kids could not visit her at her care home. In order to help the situation, police officers came to the rescue. A Delta police officer had tea with the elderly woman – which is possibly the most polite and Canadian thing ever. Prepare to have your faith in humanity restored.
Last week, Delta police in British Columbia responded to a call from an elderly care home. Narcity spoke with Cris Leykauf, public affairs manager with the Delta police, about the heartwarming story. According to Leykauf, the call was regarding a woman in her 90s who was acting uncooperatively and was described as agitated. Cops were called to the scene to assist.
When a police officer arrived, he discovered there was a reason why the woman was sad. According to the report published by the police officer, the elderly woman was very upset that her adult children were unable to visit her that day. Because of the sad news, the woman was incredibly inconsolable until cops arrived.
While talking with the woman, the cop realized that she needed some company. After calming her down, the cop decided to have a cup of tea and sit down for a one on one conversation with the woman.
The cop, whose name is not being released to the public, described the woman as a delight to deal with and very pleasant. “I wanted to flag [the report] because our officers never know what type of call might come in, but this had a lovely ending that we had to share,” said Leykauf.
Since the incident, Delta police have posted about it on social media. According to the comments on their Facebook post, this is not the first time Delta police have responded with kindness.
Multiple Facebook users have commented about how the Delta police have helped their elderly parents in similar situations. Many are thankful for the care and compassion that was demonstrated by the police officer.
Situations like this are a great reminder for all of us to all be kinder to one another. Great job, Delta PD!
