The Vancouver Aquarium has officially been named as being one of the best aquariums in North America. The official list, consisting of 10 locations, has Vancouver as the only Canadian aquarium. This is all the more reason to visit one of Canad's largest aquariums.
On the morning of May 10, 2019, the Vancouver Aquarium proudly announced that it was considered to be one of the best aquariums in North America according to USA Today. The list of 10 locations was created through a partnership between 10Best editors and included 20 nominees. Through voting, the final 10 were picked and it looks like Vancouver has some serious support.
Vancouver came in at number 8, beating out the Tennessee Aquarium and the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.
According to USA Today, Vancouver is a proud winner of this noteworthy award due to its nearly 50,000 animal species and exhibits! From the BC tidal pass to the coral reefs of the Red Sea, we honestly have it all.
Not only does our gorgeous aquarium have an insane amount of things to see, but it is also the headquarters of Ocean Wise. This means we have a wide variety of scientists, educators, and conservation experts working to protect the world’s oceans right in our own backyard!
While the aquarium is known for having a huge variety of fish, they also have some furry, and not so furry, friends you can visit. Have you seen the sloths that live at the Vancouver Aquarium? Cause if you haven’t, you’re seriously missing out.
Home to two slow-moving cuties, Hurricane and Sally are here to make you smile. They like to nap up high and snack in-between, so be sure to keep your heads up when looking for them.
Did we mention there are otters? These water-dogs are seriously hilarious and have gone viral on more than one occasion. The Vancouver Aquarium is always giving these curious creatures enrichment tools so they are in a constant state of play.
The awesome part is that the aquarium films these creatures reacting to their holiday presents. On Valentines Day and Easter this year, videos of these adorable otters went viral- drawing attention from across Canada.
In case you needed another reason to go visit, the Vancouver Aquarium is constantly rescuing injured or abandoned animals- so you can feel good about going! Recently, the aquarium took in a seal pup named Dwayne 'the Rockfish' Johnson. This pup is getting a second chance of life thanks to the aquarium!
