One woman won big this week, and it's all thanks to pizza cravings. A South Surrey woman won the $2 million lottery after buying a ticket while waiting for her pizza. Had she not been in line for her pizza, she would not have bought the winning ticket that day. The moral of the story? You can't go wrong with getting a slice of 'za.
BC resident Anita Snyder is the latest lottery winner in the province, and the story of how she won is pretty incredible. "For Anita Snyder, waiting for her pizza order led to a $2 million jackpot win for BC/49’s June 26, 2019 draw," reads the press release sent to Narcity from BCLC.
It was a 20 minute wait for the pizza to be ready,” says Snyder in the release. “The woman [at the London Drugs at Morgan Crossing] said there was a new $30 Weekly Pack for all the draws, so I thought I’d try it.”
It wasn't until later when Snyder was back home in her kitchen when she found out she had the winning Lotto! ticket. “The only reason I scanned the ticket was because I was changing my purse before I left for lunch," she said.
"I ran in to my husband’s room and asked him if he could see the $2 million too. I think I screamed … We had to call BCLC because it didn’t feel real."
So what does Snyder plan to do now that she's $2 million richer? As of now, she and her husband do not have any big plans as they are still processing everything that happened. So far, they are potentially planning to visit Montreal, their home city, celebrate with a bottle of champagne, and are looking at investing the money.
The lucky lottery winner and her husband are both from Montreal. They moved to South Surrey in 2001 and have lived there ever since.
Synder isn't the first Surrey resident who won big in the lottery this year. Earlier this year in May, a Surrey janitor won $7 million and said that he wouldn't be quitting his job despite the big win. The whole story was adorable.
