It’s finally happening. B.C. is getting Uber and Lyft and we could not be more excited about it. In order to get these rideshares up and running, Uber and Lyft are hiring drivers in Vancouver. Whether you are looking for a full-time position or a part-time gig, this could be the thing for you. Here’s what we know so far.
Getting Uber and Lyft to operate in B.C. was a challenge, to say the least. As of September 3, 2019, the B.C. government began accepting applications for ride-hailing companies.
Shortly after, Lyft and Uber applied, stating that they would begin operating in the fall. Well, it's now fall and it looks like the companies are keeping their promises.
Local cab companies may be sweating about the introduction of Uber and Lyft, but whether you are here for it or not, it’s happening.
According to Google's job postings, Uber and Lyft are hiring. These jobs will be great no matter what you’re looking for schedule-wise.
We suggest applying as soon as you can. Once people get wind that Uber and Lyft are hiring, all the jobs could be gone.
According to a search on Glassdoor, Uber is hiring drivers. The post states that drivers with Uber will get paid weekly in fares by “helping our community of riders get around town.”
Uber has classified this job as a great way to earn a little extra cash, totally on your schedule.
Uber has set a number of requirements for the position. Anyone interested in applying must be 21-years-old or older, have a four-door vehicle, and a driver's license and insurance.
"Uber is working with prospective driver-partners to ensure they have a Class 4 licence and meet the strict safe driving record required to partner with Uber,” said Matt MacInnis, spokesperson for B.C. related injuries with Uber, in an email to Narcity.
“Driver-partners are independent contractors who set their own hours, which means that Uber needs many qualified drivers in the system in order to meet the expected demand for safe, affordable, reliable rides in Metro Vancouver,” MacInnis continued.
Not only is Uber hiring drivers, but according to Google jobs, the ride-hailing company is also hiring an in-person support staff and team lead for Vancouver.
It’s not only Uber that is hiring. According to Google's job postings, Lyft is also looking to hire drivers in Vancouver.
Similar to Uber, Lyft is offering a flexible schedule and extra money in your pocket. It seems as though Lyft wants to get a head start on Uber as they are offering a $500 signing bonus.
In order to apply, you must complete a driving record check, have a Class 1,2, or 4 driver's license, be 21 or older, and own your own vehicle that's 2010 or newer and is registered in the province.
Lyft is also asking applicants to have a police information and vulnerable escort check.
Like Uber, Lyft is looking to hire more than just drivers in Vancouver. Positions for an analytics manger, community associate, and operations leader are just some of the positions available.
Lyft is also looking to help their soon to be drivers earn their Class 4 licenses by partnering with Valley Driving School.
According to an email sent to Narcity by Lyft, this free education session will help drivers meet the requirements that were set by the provincial government.
Both Lyft and Uber were unable to tell us how many drivers they are looking to hire. If you’re interested, the positions can be easily applied for online and we suggest you do it fast.
