Vancouver just got treated to the perfect example of what not to do while in a virtual meeting. During Vancouver’s virtual council meeting someone actually flushed a toilet while they were recording live. The flushing sound can be heard, loud and clear, followed by instructions for everyone to mute themselves if they weren't speaking.

We've all had the pleasure of taking part in a lengthy phone meeting or been on hold for so long that you start pacing around the house.

If you find yourself in this situation, be sure to press the mute button, especially if you're in the bathroom.

During the council's first virtual meeting in Vancouver, someone was heard flushing a toilet. This wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't broadcasted live for everyone to hear.

The meeting on Tuesday, April 14, started off like any other council meeting with sorting out technical difficulties and conducting role call.

Things quickly took a turn for the hilarious at around the 10:46 a.m. mark when a sitcom-worthy toilet flush is heard.

This happened just moments after everyone was asked to mute their devices. The toilet flush is not subtle at all. In fact, it was so obvious that the mayor even addressed it.

“Please mute your phones if you can please,” said Mayor Kennedy Stewart. “And your toilets.”

At least Stewart had a sense of humour about it and let out a laugh shortly after the toilet flush.

“We can hear water in the background,” said the B.C. mayor

After several giggles were heard and jokes were made, Stewart noted that they were live so to watch what was being said.

Needless to say, the first attempt at a virtual council meeting did not go as planned. But this was not the first time council was interrupted by someone neglecting to press mute.

After the meeting started, it was brought to a halt when a councillor answered their phone to pay a personal bill

The city manager told CTV News that the team was obviously in their learning phase as this is a new era for them all.

Even Stewart admitted to Ottawa Matters that the first attempt at a virtual get-together was bumpy and filled with glitches and delays.

Despite the hiccups, the rest of the meeting remained relatively uneventful in terms of comedic relief but we are so glad the few that happened were caught on live video.
