B.C. had a record day today and not in a good way — daily COVID-19 cases in B.C. were the third-highest they've ever been since the start of the pandemic.

On Wednesday, August 12, Dr. Bonnie Henry released a statement that shared some sobering numbers.

New COVID-19 cases in B.C.

One day earlier, the province saw 44 new cases — more people have COVID-19 in B.C. now than they ever have before with 531 active cases.

Most cases are in young people in the Lower Mainland who were exposed to it at parties and events.

Plus, many of the new cases are linked to travel from outside of the province.
