Have you gotten all of your holiday shopping done already? Hopefully, you have because it's not a great time to head to the mall. With all the festivities just around the corner, people are scrambling for last-minute gifts. The busiest shopping day of the year in Canada is today and it will be hectic.

According to Moneris Canada, one of North America's leading payment providers, December 20 is poised to bring out the crowds and be the most hectic day of the year.

While Black Friday is technically the biggest when it comes to the total number of dollars spent, today is the busiest in Canada because it's expected to have the highest number of transactions.

According to Daily Hive, Malcolm Fowler, chief product and partnership officer at Moneris, expects more than 25 million transactions to take place today.

On December 22, 2017, there were 8,347,775 transactions processed in Canada to make it the busiest shopping day of the year and December 21, 2018, had the highest number of transactions for the entire year.

However, if you still have names to cross off your list and going to the mall today is unavoidable, you can at least try and avoid the busiest time of day.

It's expected that the busiest hour on the busiest shopping day this year will be 2:00 p.m. EST.

Even if you avoid the malls and any kind of shopping today and head out on the weekend, you still shouldn't expect it to be smooth sailing.

According to past Moneris data about the weekend leading up to Christmas, it won't be as busy as the busiest day of the year but you can still expect to see a lot of crowds at the mall.

If you're going shopping today, good luck to you.
