There's an app for that. If you're talking about the novel coronavirus, you'd be correct. The Canada COVID-19 app was announced on April 1 as the pandemic continues across the country.

The new mobile platform was revealed at a press conference including a number of Canada's ministers. Patty Hajdu, who is the Minister of Health said it was launched yesterday as a way to keep Canadians informed.

"This app will provide up-to-date information about the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada," she said, "including advice for preventing the spread of the virus, important contact information, and guidance for seeking medical help. And it includes a way for Canadians to check their symptoms using the app."

It's available for free on either the Apple Store or the Google Play store. You can also download it from Canada's official website.

"This app is just one more way that we can give Canadians information that they are seeking during this outbreak," Hajdu said.

The home page features a number of pages covering physical distancing, what to do if you get sick, hand hygiene, and more.

There's also a section for the stats in Canada on how many cases there are and where, another for updates and news from the government, and a separate one for resources.

Then there's the self-check for symptoms.

The self-check tool can be used at any time if you are unsure about your situation or think you may have symptoms of COVID-19.

Once you start, it will ask you a series of questions to determine if you need to see a doctor or what steps you should follow, based on your answers.

The yes or no questions come up one by one, with the first focusing on symptoms:

Then they assess what risk of exposure you may have, like whether you've travelled outside of Canada recently or been in close contact with someone who has the disease.

Depending on what you answer, the app will recommend a course of action for you. For example, if you say no to every question, it will tell you that you don't need to be tested for COVID-19.

It goes on to say "please self-monitor, wash your hands frequently, and practice physical distancing."

The app is distributed by Health Canada and you can set your preferences to either English or French.
