Getting a parking ticket can be one of the most annoying parts of anyone's day, but imagine an entire organization just racking up parking tickets basically non-stop. That's apparently what has been happening with Canada Post, as a number of its trucks have been ticketed for parking infractions

The number of parking fines for Canada Post vehicles has almost reached $1 million, and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down. According to a report from the Canadian Press, this is due to a number of factors, mainly congested city streets and more concentrated addresses in large cities.

According to the report, most of the parking infractions occur in and around Toronto and other major urban areas. However, Canada Post vehicles have received parking tickets across the country. The worst year on record for parking violations was 2016, when Canada Post paid $943,293 in parking tickets.

Despite the fact that Canada Post trucks need to be driven into major urban centres to deliver mail, there are no actual exceptions for them when it comes to obeying parking laws. "There is no preferential treatment for Canada Post," Sgt. Brett Moore of the Toronto Police told the Canadian Press. So just remember: even the mail is not above the law.

While Canada Post workers have to pay any tickets received for traffic violations, the crown corporation does pay parking tickets (with an acceptable excuse, of course).

Emilie Tobin of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers told the Canadian Press, "In some areas, it is difficult to find a legal parking space, so our members do have to park illegally and some do incur parking tickets."

Tobin added that the system is obviously not ideal, and that postal workers have said they would prefer if there were designated routes for their vehicles in order to curb the number of tickets.
