Daylight Savings Starts This Weekend & It Means Spring Is Finally Coming

If you’re sick and tired of the cold, dark winter, don’t worry, because the end is officially near. Daylight Savings in Canada starts next week, which can only mean one thing. Spring is finally on the horizon!
Next Monday, don’t forget to go to bed a little earlier. March’s Daylight Savings means we’re going to lose an hour of precious sleep, but don’t be disappointed, because it proves that spring is almost here.
In fact, the new season is now less than three weeks away, which will be welcome news to anybody who’s sick of shovelling their driveway.
This year, March 19 marks the first full day of spring, and while theisn’t perfect, lighter and brighter evenings will be welcomed back with open arms.
Before we start dreaming of sipping cocktails on the patio and enjoying the season’swe’ve got to be prepared for Sunday, March 8.
At 2:00 a.m., the clocks will move forward one hour, and the time will change to 3:00 a.m. While most of your electronics will do this automatically, it’s important to change the time on any manual clocks.
You don’t want to be late for work on Monday!
After a seemingly endless winter, things are about to brighten up. The hour time difference will mean that sunset is now 60 minutes later, so long, warm, spring evenings are just around the corner.
While the sun in Ottawa currently sets around 6 p.m., by the end of March it will be closer to 7:30 p.m. That's an extra hour and a half of light every day!
While most Canadians will lose an hour of sleep on Sunday, not everybody will be affected.
Some regions of Canada don’t change their clocks at all during the year, and remain on standard time throughout the seasons.
This includes most of Saskatchewan, some areas of Quebec, Southampton Island and some spots in B.C. Fortunately, this doesn’t mean that spring isn’t close for everyone.
Regardless of where you are in the country, the Spring Equinox will occur at 11:49 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 19.
From then, we only have to wait until June 20 for the summer season to begin, which has felt like a long time coming!
