Two Dozen Talented Canadians Are Battling To Win $20K In The First Global Etsy Design Awards
The 'Etsies' winners will be announced in September.
Finalists for the first-ever Etsy Design Awards were announced this week and there are 23 Canadian designers in the running! The Canadian creators who made the shortlist of finalists were selected from thousands of entries from Etsy sellers around the world. The winners of the competition stand to earn almost CA$20,000 and will be announced next month.
The "Etsies" are a global competition striving to recognize creators across the world. Finalists will be judged on the creativity, utility, quality, and "wow" factor of their creations and the 23 Canadians are finalists in all five categories of the awards, which are:
- Inventive decor
- Signature style
- Festive celebrations
- Creative collaborations
"Our mission is to keep commerce human, and we're committed to using the power of business to strengthen communities and empower people," the brand said in a press release.
The awards have a grand prize of US$15,000, which is equivalent to almost CA$20,000, along with five category-specific prizes to be given out.
Finalist Collage Crafting, based in Montreal and nominated in the inventive decor category, said on Instagram they are "so excited to be part of #TheEtsies celebration of the best of Etsy from around the globe."
"Etsy has given my business so much support over the years and allowed me to meet to so many amazing makers! It's an honour to be in such great company," she said.
"We connect millions of buyers and sellers from nearly every country in the world," Etsy said.
The finalists will be judged by a panel of entrepreneurs and tastemakers from around the world including favourite Canadian son and "Schitt's Creek" star, Dan Levy.
The winners will be announced in September 2019.
