Anyone who wants to observe a breathtaking celestial event before the end of the year is in luck. The Geminid meteor shower will be visible in the night sky on December 13 and 14, and there's even more good news: you don't even need a telescope to experience it.

The Geminid meteor shower occurs every year, but due to moonlight conditions for December 13 and 14, there will be more meteors visible than normal. According to Space.com, you might be able to spot 20 to 30 each hour.

Of course, you'll have to stay up pretty late if you're planning to catch the celestial light show. Visibility peaks at around 2 AM in your local timezone. However, you might be able to spot a few between 9 and 10 PM as well.

There are meteor showers all year long, and while the summer ones may be easier to watch due to warm weather, the Geminid meteor shower is one of the most vibrant.

This is due to the fact that this particular meteor shower tends to have a lot of fireballs, making things even brighter and easier to see.

Of course, if you really want to get the best view of this amazing meteor shower, you'll have to find a viewing spot with as little light sources as possible. That means you might have to take a small trip outside of the city to find a good viewing spot.

You'll also have to arrive at your viewing spot about 20 minutes early so that your eyes can adjust to the darkness for a better viewing experience.

The meteors that fall during the Geminid meteor shower are debris from a larger body known as 3200 Phaethon, which crosses Earth's orbit once a year.

As the debris flies into Earth's atmosphere at 130,000 km per hour, it vaporizes, creating the bright meteors you can see this month.

Just make sure to dress warm, because meteor-watching at 2 AM in the middle of December will probably be pretty cold.
