A Canadian mining company continues to get top quality diamonds from its mine in Africa and their latest find is massive. Lucara's 123 carat diamond was recently recovered from their mine and the Canadian-owned company is understandably proud of the find. The total number of diamonds over 100 carats found by Lucara is almost 30 thanks to this one!
The diamond was recently recovered from the company's mine in Botswana, Africa. Even though the gem wasn't found in Canada, the Canadian company owns 100 percent of the mine so it's a great Canadian discovery.
"Lucara is pleased with the continued strong performance of the mine and the consistent recovery of large, high-quality diamonds that contribute more than 70% of Lucara's total revenues," said Eira Thomas, Lucara's CEO, in a press release.
The recently recovered gem is described as a quality top white diamond.
Lucara has also made other notable discoveries in its mines like a 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona, an 813-carat Constellation and just recently the company recovered a record-breaking 1,758-carat Sewelô.
The 1,758 carat diamond was found just a few months ago and is the biggest one Lucara has recovered and the biggest diamond to be found in Botswana to date.
With the discovery of this newest 123-carat diamond, Lucara has gotten 29 diamonds over 100 carats and eight diamonds over 200 carats from its mine in Botswana.
The Canadian company also gets top dollar for its diamonds.
This year 19 diamonds have sold for more than $1.3 million, seven diamonds went for $2.6 million and one even sold for more than $10 million.
