During this pandemic, companies are stepping up to help people working on the frontlines to keep our country safe and healthy. Nando's free takeout is being given to all health care workers in Canada. Also, hot meals will be given to hospitals that are close to any of its restaurant locations.

As of March 26, Nando's is pledging to do a bunch of things to give back to local communities.

That includes providing free takeout to any nurse, doctor or health care worker when they show up in-store either in uniform or with a valid health care ID.

If placing the order by phone, the person needs to present their ID when they collect their food.

Nando's is also bringing catered hot meals to hospitals that are near every location in Canada to provide sustenance to all the workers.

Plus, it's free of charge.

"We want the communities we serve to know that Nando's is here for you. And we are here for our employees and our communities that we have always proudly called our family," said Desmond Edwards, vice president of marketing at Nando's Canada, in a news release.

All of the locations across Canada will stay open to offer takeout and delivery.

However, there will be exceptions for any place that orders restaurants to close completely.

All to-go orders are being left at the front of the stores.

Nando's is also giving 50 free meals a day per restaurant to laid-off restaurant industry workers, donating surplus food that's packaged and before its expiration date to local food banks and providing free family meals for employees whose families are in need.

Also, customers can pay it forward by purchasing a meal for a laid-off restaurant industry worker or a health care worker in their community.

Only 10 employees and customers will be allowed to be inside the restaurants at any given time to keep a safe distance.

All employees have to frequently wash their hands, clean all surfaces and stay home if they're feeling sick.

Nando's is continuing to do health checks at the beginning and end of each shift.

"We don't just serve chicken. We serve the community. We're all in this together," said Edwards.

There are more than 45 Nando's locations in B.C., Alberta and Ontario.
