After being declared the unofficial Mayor of Dildo, Newfoundland, earlier this year, U.S. television superstar Jimmy Kimmel has finally had the chance to meet some genuine Dildo locals. The Canadian couple spent around four hours waiting to meet the honorary Mayor of Dildo, Jimmy Kimmel, and when they finally did, it was a pretty sweet moment!

When Newfoundland family the Harnums took a vacation to New York City this week, they didn’t expect to come face-to-face with the honorary mayor of their hometown, Dildo. Fortunately, the family was prepared enough to pack their Dildo Brewing t-shirts, which ended up being what led them to meeting the popular TV-host.

Earlier this year, American chat show host, Jimmy Kimmel, developed a bit of an obsession with the Newfoundland town of Dildo, leading him to throw his name in the hat for a shot at being the town’s mayor. While his sidekick, Guillermo Rodriques, visited the small Canadian town, Kimmel was actually named the unofficial mayor in August.

When the vacationing Harnum family decided to stand in line to get tickets to the morning talk show Live with Kelly and Ryan, they donned their best Dildo Brewing t-shirts, in the hopes of bumping into the morning show’s special guest: Jimmy Kimmel.

Roxanne Harnum told CBC News that the family had not known Kimmel would be appearing on the show until the day before. When they learned that their town's honorary mayor would be a guest on the show, they jumped at the chance to meet the celebrity.

Roxanne explained that while they were in the line, their Dildo t-shirts were attracting the attention of the shows’ producers and film crews.

After waiting for about four hours, the crew came outside to tell the Harnums that Kimmel would shortly be coming outside for a segment with the shows’ hosts, Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.

When their segment was over and the hosts started to go back inside, Mr Harnum spotted his opportunity to call out to Kimmel, shouting, “Hey, Jimmy, look at our shirts!"

Kimmel’s reaction, which was caught on video by the Harnums, was to shout excitedly, “My people!” Despite being rushed back into the studio, Kimmel also managed to snap a quick selfie with the couple.

The family told CBC News, “We thought we'd go to the show, give our little one just the experience of seeing the taping of a show in New York and we didn't dream Jimmy would be there until we checked the day before. It was fantastic."
