Costco has become a Canadian staple when it comes to shopping for a bargain. With giant selections of just about everything, the massive warehouses across the nation are the best place to go when you're looking for a deal. While all Costco warehouses seem massive, the largest Costco store just opened in Canada, and it's in St. John's, Newfoundland.
While it may seem like an unsuspecting city, early Thursday morning, Costco Canada announced that their largest Costco in Canada has opened up its doors or the residents of St. John's. According to CBC News, the new warehouse is 182,000 square feet and has 1,000 parking spaces for the mass amount of customers that the store expects to see on the daily. The new store also has 24 gas pumps for those who are looking to score some discounted gas throughout the year.
This new Costco is located in the Galway division of St. John's and is replacing the old Costco that was located near Stavanger Drive. According to the Telegram, the old Costco closed its doors for the last time on Wednesday at 5 PM, while the new location opened for the first time early Thursday morning. The signs are already being removed from the old Costco location.
CTV News states that customers were lining up as early as 4 AM on Thursday morning to catch a glimpse of what the largest Costco in Canada looks like.
Anticipating a good turn out and heavy traffic in the new area, Costco paid the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary police force to help direct traffic during the grand opening.
A new Costco launched in the Greater Toronto Area last year in Thorncliffe Park and was considered to be massive, as it occupied the old Coca-Cola head office.
However, according to the Toronto Sun, the Toronto location is 165,000 square feet, which means the new Newfoundland location is a whole 17,000 square feet larger.
St. John's new Costco location will be open Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM, Saturday from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
