'O Canada' Was Just Ranked The Third Most Inspiring Anthem In The World
It was beat by the U.S. and Germany for the top spot.
Whenever you sing and listen to ‘O Canada,’ do you get chills and goosebumps? Do you feel patriotic and inspired? Well, you should! The "O Canada" national anthem was named the third most inspiring and rousing anthem in the whole world, according to a new study by Calm.com. According to them, listeners feel a strong sense of patriotism when they hear the traditional Canadian tune.
That being said, "O Canada" did not come out as number one in the ranking. Canada’s anthem did fall short of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ (U.S.) and ‘Deutschlandlied’ (Germany) in the study, which were the tunes that researchers found to be the most inspiring of all.
The study was commissioned by Calm.com and conducted in the UK under the supervision of Dr Jason Ellis, a Professor of Sleep Science at Northumbria University.
The research examined the pre-sleep arousal levels of participants, as they listened to the different national anthems on successive nights before they went to bed. The anthems that left the individuals in the most excited state were then deemed the most inspiring.
Also in the top five most "rousing" national anthems, joining the ranks alongside the U.S., Germany and Canada, was Italy and Mexico.
The study also considered which of the world’s national anthems could be considered the most calming. It concluded that the anthem of the European Union, and the UK’s God Save The Queen, were the most peaceful and relaxing anthems to listen to.
The spokesperson for Calm.com, Peter Freedman, reiterated this sense of ‘calm’. He said, “The EU anthem was designed to celebrate peace and shared values, whereas most national anthems were conceived, written and designed to build a sense of patriotism and national pride.”
Whatever the results of this particular study were, it is certain that "O Canada" would still be the number one anthem in the hearts of Canadians. What could be better than "O Canada", eh?
