Climate strike protests are scheduled to take place all over Toronto on September 27th as students and employees rally against climate change.  The now popular event that is bringing millions across the globe together, all started with a Swedish teenager’s passion for the environment. The school strike for climate movement has launched Greta Thunberg into the spotlight. The 16-year-old has been the subject of documentaries, made the cover of Time Magazine and was even declared a “next-generation leader.”

Despite the outpour of support for the young activist, some disagree with her. In fact, popular Canadian commentator Faith Goldy recently took to Twitter on Friday to denounce Thunberg. In her tweet, Goldy appears to mock the climate leader’s Asperger syndrome, a developmental disorder, which the teen has praised for being her “superpower."

In the Tweet, Goldy states, "Hands up if this is more relatable than the polar ice cap drivel this aspyfemoid has been pushing." Below the tweet, Goldy also attached a photo of a meme.

Since the tweet has been posted, many users are mixed about the comments that Goldy has made. While some are standing up for the Canadian commentator, others are calling her out for making fun of the 16-year-old activist.

Some of Goldy’s followers joined in on the conversation by attacking Thunberg.

“People with Asperger syndrome can display behaviour, interests, and activities that are restricted and repetitive and are sometimes abnormally intense or focused,” wrote one user who appeared to be using Thunberg's Asperger’s diagnosis to discredit her.

“I see no evidence whatsoever that Greta even knows what a church is,” wrote another user commenting on the meme that Goldy posted alongside her caption.

Others took to criticizing the political commentator and how she called out Thunberg during the Climate Strike. One user even stating, "Again you need to see a doctor."

This isn’t the first time that Goldy has weighed in on a controversial issue. The YouTuber offered up a similar statement on Marcella Zoia, Toronto’s Chair Girl, earlier this year after the 19-year-old was charged after throwing a chair off a high-rise condo’s balcony.

“Hands up if you knew Toronto Chair Girl was going to be a barely legal thot with an Instagram account laden with thot thotty thottery,” Goldy wrote at the time.

The People’s Party of Canada leader, Maxime Bernier's has also gone after Thunberg. Bernier attacked the 16-year-old climate activist, branding her “mentally unstable,” even going as far as to suggest she “could not possibly understand” climate change.
