As the number of cases of COVID-19 in Ontario continues to increase and residents increasingly practice self-isolation techniques, the province is taking more measures. With bars and restaurants already closed, it just got even harder to get your hands on booze. LCBO and Beer Store hours will be cut in response to the pandemic; new hours start on Thursday, March 19.

According to a statement by LCBO President and CEO George Soleas issued on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 18, the company will be limiting their store hours all over Ontario, starting pretty much right now.

As of tomorrow, March 19, LCBOs will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Normally, stores stay open as late as 11 p.m.

Hours are also being cut at The Beer Store's locations as of tomorrow.

Stores will see their hours reduced to 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, while Sunday hours remain the same, starting March 19 until March 31. Locations that only operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. normally will stay unchanged.

So, for the foreseeable future, if you want to get your hands on some beers or a bottle of wine for your evening chillout sessions, you'll probably have to rush after work to beat the doors closing.

Neither store is accepting returns in the meantime, including empties, in an attempt to help "flatten the curve."

Returns will be fully honoured when operations are resumed.

Both stores do offer delivery options if you're in dire need of the products they sell. You can order through their online sites or through partners like Foodora.

So, at least you can add this to the list of stores that are able to deliver products right to your door.

As the number of cases in Ontario continues to increase, even doubling over this past weekend, the push for social distancing and only leaving your home when needed has never been greater.

Premier Doug Ford, while speaking to reporters on Wednesday, even suggested the possibility of limiting the number of customers in stores as well as the amount of a given product they can buy in one go.

As stores are closing up shop and cities like Ottawa and Toronto increasingly resemble ghost towns, the LCBO and The Beer Store are clamping down.
