If it’s been getting a little lonely at home recently, a furry new friend could be closer than you think. While most of the city continues to practice social distancing, the region’s homeless pets are still on the lookout for some serious snuggles. In fact, according to the Ottawa Humane Society, now is the perfect time to adopt a fluffy BFF.

We’ve all been spending a little more time in the house than usual, and some people may have noticed a four-pawed hole in their lives.

If you have, the Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) is here for you, and they’re committed to helping wannabe pet parents find the perfect new addition to their family.

In fact, as we continue to practice social distancing, the OHS says there’s no time like the present to consider adopting a pet.

In a statement to Narcity, the charity explained, “it is a great time to adopt a pet to reduce the potential strain on the shelter.”

While the centre is not currently open to walk-in visitors, the OHS confirmed that those interested in taking an animal home can still make appointments.

Interested potential adopters are encouraged to check out the available animals on their website, and then contact the shelter directly to book an appointment.

If you've been waiting for an excuse to rescue a furry friend, this is it!

In order to reduce the potential pressure that the COVID-19 outbreak could have on the shelter, they remain on the lookout for purr-fect potential pet parents.

Speaking to Narcity, the animal charity explained, “We know that this crisis has placed financial strain on many families and businesses in our community, and it is placing strain on us.”

So, if you've noticed that there's a cat, dog, rabbit, or guinea-pig shaped hole in you're life... you know what to do!

In additional to potential adopters, the OHS is also on the hunt for volunteers to help them keep going during this unprecedented crisis.

"We may also be in need of additional foster volunteer support over the next few months," they explained.

Anyone interested in becoming a foster volunteer or learning more about what it entails should apply on their website.

If you're interested in adopting, you can find more information on the Ottawa Humane Society website.

After all, there's nothing like a puppy kiss or a kitty cuddle to get you through tough times!
