Keep your eyes on the sky! As part of a tour they’re calling “Operation Inspiration,” the Canadian Armed Forces Snowbirds will fly over the Ottawa-Gatineau area on Thursday. The iconic Snowbirds will be in Ottawa's skies late afternoon, circling to land around 5:15 p.m.

Late last month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the famous Canadian Snowbirds would be taking part in a cross-country tour, in order to "salute Canadians doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19."

The red, white and blue Tutor jets started their tour in Nova Scotia last week, and on Thursday will be spotted soaring above the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

Their afternoon flight will take-off in Montreal at around 4:14 p.m., before following a path along the St. Lawrence River.

From there, the jets are expected to take a turn over Cornwall at 4:30 p.m., before heading northwest towards the capital.

They will circle for landing in Ottawa at approximately 5:15 p.m.

So far, the colourful Snowbirds have flown above Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Quebec.

"As we watch the Snowbirds fly over our homes, let's remember that we are all in this together," Trudeau said during his announcement in April.

On their Twitter page, the iconic Snowbirds warned that their flight times and routes were subject to change, and asked locals to keep an eye on their account for updates on take-offs.

Thursday's weather forecast for the Ottawa-Gatineau region is predicting showers; however, the Snowbirds have not indicated that this will affect their plans.

On April 29, the Royal Canadian Airforce explained, "Flyovers will occur at an elevation no lower than 500 feet above all obstacles."

“We’ve been asked to do what we do best… inspire Canadians,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Mike French, Commanding Officer of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.

“Through Operation Inspiration, we not only want to salute the front-line health-care workers, first responders, and essential workers, but also all Canadians doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19," he added.

On their Facebook page, the Snowbirds asked all spectators to "maintain social distancing and respect local directives. That will keep us all safe."

Enjoy the show, Ottawa!
