Within two days, York Regional Police have had to investigate two instances of people defacing the Aurora rainbow crosswalk, and they have made one arrest following the most recent incident.

According to a news release from the YRP, 57-year-old Roy Zinn was arrested at 3:20 a.m. on August 22 when an on-duty officer spotted him using black spraypaint to deface the rainbow crosswalk at Yonge Street and Wellington Road.

Zinn has been charged with mischief and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on December 1.

Hate crime investigators are also gathering evidence in this case to potentially present during sentencing, according to a tweet from the York Regional Police.

This instance of vandalism comes less than 48 hours after the authorities reported a separate incident in which someone driving a pickup truck intentionally left tire marks on the rainbow crosswalk (which was only completed on August 21) twice.
