Canada has some pretty great post-secondary schools if this is anything to go by. The ranking of the best universities in the world includes three Canadian schools in the top 50. Another 23 schools were also in the ranking just further down!

The QS World University Rankings have been released and they show just how good the best universities in the world are.

One thousand schools from around the world are included on the list and three Canadian ones were able to crack the top 50.

Each university is evaluated on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.

For all three of the Canadian universities that ranked highly, citations per faculty is the category they all scored the worst on.

The University of Toronto received an overall score of 82.7 and is tied for 25th place in the ranking.

Of all the qualities that got weighed into the rankings, the post-secondary institution scored highest in "academic reputation" with a 99.3.

This spot in the ranking is an improvement from last year when U of T was tied for the 29th spot.

However, this move up doesn't bring the school that much closer to its all-time high of 17th place back in 2014.

McGill University is hot on U of T's trail in 31st place.

The school got an overall score of 80 with this year's list.

This is actually the first year since 2015 that it hasn't dropped in the rankings.

It's most highly rated quality was the 96.3 it got in regards to its "ratio of international students."

The last Canadian school in the top 50 is the University of British Columbia.

UBC received an overall score of 74.8, almost 10 points lower than U of T's score, to take up the 45th spot in the ranking.

The institution got its highest score of 97.1 in the "academic reputation" category.

Last year, UBC was just outside of the top 50 but managed to make it back this year.

After those three schools, the next Canadian one isn't until the 118th spot in the ranking.

Université de Montréal, University of Alberta, McMaster University and University of Waterloo all made the top 200.
