Toronto is getting ready to celebrate Caribbean-style this week! The CN Tower Caribana lighting will kick off the weekend of the annual parade in style on Thursday, August 1. The illumination will be part of a special event held at the tower to kick off the weekend extravaganza.
To jump-start the annual Caribana festivities, you can catch the lighting of the CN Tower from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday. The iconic landmark will be lit in yellow, red, and green.
"The CN Tower programmable architectural lighting has helped to raise awareness for hundreds of charities, special causes and events, including the Caribbean Carnival," Jennifer Paige, director of marketing and communications for CN Tower, told Narcity.
In addition to kicking off Caribana weekend, the event will recognize and commemorate the emancipation of slavery along with the annual Underground Railroad event put together by A Different Booklist, an independent Toronto bookstore that focuses on African-Canadian books.
2019 marks the 52nd year the weekend has been running.
If the result of the illumination is anything as spectacular as it was to mark the birth of the latest British royal baby back in May, everyone's in for a treat.
Caribana parade weekend takes place from August 1 to August 4.
