A harrowing incident broke out in North York on Tuesday morning after a head-on collision between two vehicles ended in a shoot out. According to Toronto police, a daylight shooting broke out on the Ontario Highway 400 on-ramp from Jane Street. The occupants of both vehicles began firing at one another after getting into a collision.

Police arrived on scene at Jane Street south shortly after 11:15 AM after receiving reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, officers discovered two cars which collided head-on, along with a firearm near the shoulder of the road.

A later investigation discovered that the two vehicles had crashed into each other in the middle of Jane Street, at which time the occupants of the car began firing at one another. One vehicle was reported to have fled the scene at high speed before police arrived.

In the photos of the chaotic wreck, two cars are seen smashed together, front end to front end. One car's windshield appears to be pierced with several bullet holes. Police have yet to release details on the firearms.

An injured person was discovered at the scene of the crash, but the injuries are said to be non-life threatening. 

According to a report by CP24, a canine unit was initially deployed to sweep the area. The nearby Chaminade College School was placed on hold in secure as police investigated the incident. The 35 Jane TTC bus is currently diverting around the scene as officers investigate.
